Description

These Tornado Potatoes Spiraled Snack are a crispy, golden, street-food style treat made from simple potatoes sliced into spirals, stretched on skewers, brushed with seasoned oil, and baked or fried until crunchy. They make the perfect party snack, fun side dish, or kid-friendly treat that looks impressive but is very easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium potatoes, washed
  • 4 wooden skewers
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Potatoes: Wash and dry the potatoes. Insert a wooden skewer straight through the center of each potato from end to end.
  2. Create the Spiral: Hold the potato firmly and use a sharp paring knife to cut at a slight angle while rotating the skewer, forming a long spiral slice. Stretch the potato gently down the skewer to separate the slices.
  3. Season the Spirals: Mix olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Brush the mixture generously over each spiraled potato, ensuring the seasoning gets between each slice.
  4. Bake or Fry:
    • To Bake: Place potatoes on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes, rotating halfway through until golden and crisp.
    • To Fry: Heat oil in a deep pan and fry spiraled potatoes for 5–7 minutes until crispy and browned. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Finish with Toppings: While warm, sprinkle Parmesan cheese and parsley over the spirals.
  6. Serve: Enjoy immediately with dipping sauces of your choice.

Notes

For the crispiest spirals, slice the potato thinly and brush oil evenly. Serve immediately for the best crunch. You can also coat the spirals in garlic butter or add spicy seasoning before baking for extra flavor.
