Description
These Swiss Cheese & Ham Puff Pastries with Poppy Seeds are a quick, flaky, and fun-to-make treat. Packed with melty cheese and savory ham, wrapped in golden puff pastry, they’re perfect for snacks, lunchboxes, or party appetizers. Simple enough for a weekday, fancy enough for entertaining!
Ingredients
- 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 6–8 slices of Swiss cheese (or cheddar/Gruyère)
- 6–8 slices of ham (or turkey/chicken/bacon)
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (or sesame seeds)
- All-purpose flour for dusting
Instructions
- Prep Your Space: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly flour your work surface.
- Roll the Dough: Gently roll out the puff pastry sheets to smooth creases. Cut each into 6 rectangles.
- Add the Filling: On half the rectangles, spread a little Dijon mustard (if using), then layer ham and cheese.
- Seal It Up: Top each filled rectangle with a plain one. Crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
- Finish & Bake: Brush with beaten egg, sprinkle with poppy seeds, and cut a small slit on top of each pastry for venting.
- Bake: Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
You can prepare these up to 24 hours in advance—just assemble and refrigerate before baking. For best results, reheat leftovers in an oven or toaster oven to restore crispness. Try different cheeses or fillings to make them your own!
