Description
These Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes are the ultimate comfort food mash-up! Juicy ground beef, sautéed peppers and onions, and melted provolone cheese come together for a cheesy, savory sandwich that’s ready in just 30 minutes. It’s a quick, family-friendly twist on two classics.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, diced (or red/yellow for variation)
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup (optional)
- 1 tablespoon beef broth or water
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 slices provolone cheese (or mozzarella/white American)
- 4 hamburger buns, toasted
Instructions
- Sauté the Veggies: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add diced onions and bell peppers, sautéing for 5–7 minutes until soft.
- Brown the Beef: Add the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks. Cook until browned, about 6–8 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add Flavor: Stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, broth, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Add Cheese: Lower heat and lay provolone slices on top. Cover until cheese melts, then stir to combine.
- Assemble: Toast buns, scoop sloppy joe mixture onto bottoms, and top with optional toppings. Serve warm.
Notes
Toast the buns for better texture and to prevent sogginess. You can prep the beef mixture ahead and refrigerate or freeze. For a spicy kick, add jalapeños or crushed red pepper.
