Description
This classic Southern peach cobbler recipe, inspired by Paula Deen, is simple, sweet, and full of juicy peach flavor. Perfect for busy days or family gatherings, it comes together in under an hour using pantry staples and canned peaches.
Ingredients
½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup milk
1 can (29 oz) sliced peaches in syrup
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and allow it to melt in the oven while it heats.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together self-rising flour, sugar, and milk until smooth.
Step 3: Once the butter is fully melted, remove the dish from the oven and pour the batter evenly over the butter—do not stir.
Step 4: Pour the entire can of peaches, including syrup, evenly over the batter—again, do not stir.
Step 5: Sprinkle cinnamon on top, if desired, and place the dish back into the oven.
Step 6: Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and cooked through.
Step 7: Let it cool slightly before serving warm, optionally topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
For a fresh peach version, peel and slice 5–6 ripe peaches, then mix with ½ cup sugar and 1 tablespoon lemon juice.
To make it dairy-free, substitute with plant-based milk and margarine.
Use ramekins for individual servings.
Let it sit 5–10 minutes after baking so the juices thicken slightly.
