Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
- 1 cup long-grain white rice (uncooked)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth (or chicken/vegetable broth)
- 1 can (10.5 oz / 300 g) cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika or Italian seasoning (optional)
Instructions
- Brown the Beef: Heat a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until no longer pink, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Add Onion and Garlic: Stir in chopped onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Season: Add salt, pepper, and paprika or Italian seasoning. Stir well to combine.
- Add Rice and Sauce: Stir in uncooked rice, beef broth, and cream soup. Mix until rice is fully submerged.
- Add Cheese: Smooth the mixture into an even layer and sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30–35 minutes, or until rice is tender and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Rest and Serve: Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra nutrition, add frozen vegetables like peas or carrots. Use lean meat to reduce excess grease. If making ahead, add a splash of broth before baking to prevent dryness.
