This Mozzarella Baked Chicken Tagliatelle combines juicy oven-baked chicken, rich tomato sauce, and silky ribbons of tagliatelle topped with golden melted mozzarella. It’s the perfect cozy dinner for family nights or easy entertaining—simple, cheesy, and bursting with Italian comfort flavor.
Ingredients
- 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (for sauce)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup tomato sauce or passata
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
- 10 oz tagliatelle pasta (fresh or dried)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan (for topping)
- Fresh parsley or basil, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Heat olive oil in a skillet and sear chicken 3–4 minutes per side until golden. Remove and set aside.
- Make the Sauce: In the same pan, add olive oil, sauté onion until soft, then garlic. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, and chili flakes. Simmer 10 minutes. Season to taste.
- Cook the Pasta: Boil tagliatelle until al dente. Drain and toss with butter and Parmesan.
- Assemble: Spread a thin layer of sauce in a baking dish, place chicken on top, pour remaining sauce, sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Bake: Bake uncovered 20–25 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil briefly for a golden top if desired.
- Serve: Slice chicken and serve over tagliatelle with extra sauce and fresh herbs.
Notes
For extra creaminess, add a splash of heavy cream or mascarpone to the sauce. Swap tagliatelle for fettuccine or linguine. To store, refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days and reheat gently with a bit of sauce or water.
