Description
These Matcha Chocolate Chip Cookies are soft, chewy, and filled with melty chocolate chips. The earthy matcha flavor and bright green color make them a fun twist on classic chocolate chip cookies, and they come together quickly for an easy dessert or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1–2 tablespoons matcha powder (culinary grade)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips (dark, milk, or mixed)
- Optional: 1/4 cup white chocolate chips
Instructions
- Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined and no matcha clumps remain.
- Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, 2–3 minutes.
- Add Egg and Vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and mix until smooth and fully combined.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix on low speed or with a spatula just until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and optional white chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Portion the Dough: Scoop heaping tablespoons of dough and roll into balls. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space for spreading.
- Bake: Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are set and lightly golden but the centers still look soft.
- Cool and Serve: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
Notes
For the brightest green color and smoothest flavor, use high-quality matcha powder and avoid overbaking the cookies. If you prefer thicker, puffier cookies, chill the dough for 20–30 minutes before baking. You can swap in white chocolate chips for a sweeter flavor or use dark chocolate chips for a richer taste.
