Ingredients

Scale
    • Angel Food Cake
    • 1 store-bought angel food cake (or homemade)
    • 1 cup sugar (if homemade)
    • 1 cup cake flour (if homemade)
    • 12 egg whites (if homemade)
    • 1 tsp cream of tartar (if homemade)
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract (if homemade)
    • Pinch of salt (if homemade)

    • Creamy Filling
    • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
    • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
    • 8 oz cream cheese or mascarpone, softened
    • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Optional Toppings
  • Crushed cookies
  • Fresh berries
  • Sliced almonds
  • Cinnamon sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: If using a store-bought cake, set it aside for slicing. If making homemade, beat egg whites with cream of tartar until soft peaks form. Add sugar gradually, then fold in cake flour, vanilla, and salt. Bake at 350°F until golden.
  2. Make the Filling: In a chilled bowl, whip heavy cream until thick. Add powdered sugar, softened cream cheese or mascarpone, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Slice the Cake: Once cooled, slice the cake horizontally into two even layers using a serrated knife.
  4. Spread the Filling: Place the bottom layer on a plate and spread a thick, even layer of cream filling from edge to edge.
  5. Add the Top Layer: Gently replace the top layer of cake and press lightly so it holds together without flattening.
  6. Add Toppings: Finish with crushed cookies, berries, sliced almonds, or cinnamon sugar.

Notes

Soften the cream cheese for a smooth filling. Chill the mixing bowl before whipping cream. Use a warm serrated knife for clean cake slices.
