Description

These Gourmet Cheesy Mushroom and Garlic Toastsites are a simple yet elegant dish that transforms everyday ingredients into a rich, savory treat. Crispy golden bread is topped with garlicky sautéed mushrooms and melted cheese, making it perfect for brunch, light meals, or appetizers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of sourdough, ciabatta, or baguette (gluten-free bread works too)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 12 oz (340 g) mushrooms, sliced (button, cremini, or mixed mushrooms)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (mozzarella, Gruyère, cheddar, or brie)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or parsley
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: red pepper flakes or balsamic glaze for garnish

Instructions

  1. Toast the Bread: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice bread into 1-inch slices and brush with olive oil. Toast for 5–7 minutes until golden.
  2. Cook the Mushrooms: Heat butter or olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add mushrooms and cook for 5–7 minutes until golden brown. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Season with salt, pepper, and herbs.
  3. Add Cheese: Lower heat and sprinkle cheese into the skillet with mushrooms. Stir gently until the cheese begins to melt.
  4. Assemble: Spoon the cheesy mushroom mixture over toasted bread slices. Optionally top with more cheese.
  5. Broil: Place under broiler for 2–3 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Serve: Garnish with fresh herbs or a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Serve warm.

Notes

Use wild mushrooms for extra flavor. To make ahead, prepare the mushroom and garlic mixture in advance, then reheat and assemble when ready to serve. For a vegan option, use dairy-free cheese and butter substitutes.
