Description

This Easy Sausage and Ricotta Pizza with Hot Honey Drizzle is a gourmet experience you can make right in your own kitchen. It features a perfect balance of savory Italian sausage, creamy clouds of ricotta, and a signature sweet-and-spicy finish that makes it better than takeout.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 lb ground Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 2 tablespoons hot honey (or regular honey mixed with red pepper flakes)
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish
  • Flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sausage: Brown the ground sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Use a wooden spoon to break the meat into small crumbles until crispy. Drain on paper towels to remove extra grease.
  2. Preheat the Oven: Heat your oven to 475°F. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it heats.
  3. Prepare the Dough: On a floured surface, stretch the dough into a circle or rectangle and place on a baking sheet or parchment paper.
  4. Layer the Toppings: Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the dough. Sprinkle with shredded mozzarella and add the cooked sausage crumbles.
  5. Add Ricotta: Use a spoon to drop small dollops of ricotta cheese across the top of the pizza.
  6. Bake: Slide the pizza into the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Let rest for 2 minutes, then drizzle with hot honey and top with fresh basil before slicing.

Notes

For the best texture, resist spreading the ricotta dollops; keeping them as ‘clouds’ ensures they stay creamy. If you do not have hot honey, a squeeze of lemon juice and a pinch of red pepper flakes over regular honey adds a bright zing.
