Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- ½ cup softened butter (for layering)
- Optional fillings: cinnamon sugar, chocolate spread, fruit jam
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast: Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
- Make the Dough: Add flour, salt, and oil to the yeast mixture. Mix and knead for 8 minutes until dough is smooth.
- Let it Rise: Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Roll and Layer: Divide dough into 4 pieces. Roll each into a rectangle, spread with butter, and roll tightly.
- Slice and Shape: Cut each roll lengthwise, exposing layers. Twist and coil into muffin tin cups with layers facing up.
- Second Rise: Let shaped dough rise for another 45 minutes in the muffin tin.
- Bake: Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 22–25 minutes until golden and puffed.
- Cool and Serve: Let cool for 10 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar or glaze, if desired.
Notes
To avoid sticking, grease your muffin tin well or use liners. Cruffins are best eaten fresh but can be frozen and reheated. For added flavor, sprinkle fillings like cinnamon sugar or add jam before rolling the dough.
