Description

These Cinnamon Twist Muffins are soft, buttery, and filled with swirls of cinnamon sugar that bake into golden perfection. They taste like your favorite bakery cinnamon roll but come together quickly in your own kitchen. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a sweet afternoon treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup milk (whole or plant-based)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Optional Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a muffin tin with paper liners or lightly grease each cup.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugars, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk the melted butter, milk, egg, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Prepare Cinnamon Swirl: In a small bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until thick and glossy.
  6. Fill Muffin Cups: Spoon 1 tablespoon of batter into each muffin cup, add 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon swirl, then cover with more batter until 2/3 full. Swirl gently with a toothpick or knife.
  7. Bake: Bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a rack.
  8. Glaze (Optional): Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth and drizzle over warm muffins.

Notes

These muffins taste best warm from the oven. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months. For extra flair, top with chopped nuts or a drizzle of maple glaze. Perfect with coffee or tea!
