Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti/linguine)
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (for marinade)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil (divided)
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (or hoisin sauce substitute)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (for sauce)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, julienned
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup shredded cabbage
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Marinate the Beef: In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and a drizzle of sesame oil. Add the thinly sliced beef, toss to coat, and set aside for 10–15 minutes.
- Cook the Noodles: Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the lo mein noodles until just tender (about 3–4 minutes if fresh). Drain and toss with a splash of sesame oil to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon grated ginger, and minced garlic. Set aside.
- Stir-Fry the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add beef in a single layer and cook until browned, about 2–3 minutes. Remove from pan and set aside.
- Cook the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed. Stir-fry carrots, bell peppers, and cabbage for 2–3 minutes until crisp-tender.
- Combine Everything: Add the noodles and sauce to the pan. Toss gently with tongs until coated. Return the beef to the skillet and mix until everything is combined and heated through.
- Serve: Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot.
Notes
Slice beef thinly against the grain to keep it tender. Do not overcook noodles since they will finish cooking in the wok. For more spice, add chili paste or red pepper flakes to the sauce.
