Description

These warm, flaky Apple Hand Pies are the ultimate fall treat! Made with a buttery crust and filled with sweet, spiced apple chunks, they’re perfect for cozy afternoons, lunchbox surprises, or a simple homemade dessert. Easy to bake, fun to eat, and freezer-friendly—this recipe is comfort food made mini.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 9-inch pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 medium apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sugar (optional, for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make the filling: In a bowl, combine diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and flour. Stir well and let sit for 10 minutes to release juices.
  3. Prepare the dough: Roll out your pie crusts and use a round cutter (4–5 inches) to cut out circles. You should get 10–12 total.
  4. Fill the pies: Spoon about 1–2 tablespoons of the apple mixture into the center of half the dough circles.
  5. Seal the pies: Place another dough circle on top. Press edges to seal and crimp with a fork. Cut a small slit on top for steam to escape.
  6. Bake: Brush each pie with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. Cool and serve: Let them rest for 5 minutes before serving. Best enjoyed warm!

Notes

Use a mix of apple varieties for a more complex flavor. Freeze unbaked pies for future use—just bake straight from frozen with a few extra minutes. For a glazed finish, drizzle with powdered sugar icing once cooled.
