Ingredients
- 10 small flour tortillas (street taco size)
- 1 can (21 oz) apple pie filling (chopped into smaller bits)
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon apple pie spice (nutmeg and allspice blend)
- Optional: Caramel sauce or vanilla ice cream for serving
Instructions
- Prep the Filling: If your apple chunks in the pie filling are too big, chop them into smaller pieces for easier rolling.
- Prepare the Coating: In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon. In another bowl, melt the butter in the microwave for 30 seconds.
- Soften the Tortillas: Place a stack of tortillas in a damp paper towel and microwave for 20 seconds to prevent cracking.
- Fill and Roll: Place two tablespoons of filling in the center of a tortilla. Roll the tortilla up tightly like a small cigar.
- The Sugar Crust: Brush the outside of the rolled taquito with melted butter and immediately roll it in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat fully.
- Air Fry: Place the taquitos in the air fryer basket with the seam side facing down.
- Cook: Set the air fryer to 380°F. Cook for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket or turning with tongs halfway through, until golden brown and crunchy.
Notes
Do not overstuff the taquitos to prevent the filling from leaking and making the crust soggy. Always reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F for 2-3 minutes to bring back the crunch; avoid the microwave for reheating. For a variation, spread a thin layer of cream cheese on the tortilla before adding apples for a cheesecake version.
